1. GHOSTDANCE

synopsis:
This presentation results from the experimental study of an academic research project called GhostDance, which explores the relationship between dancers and a Virtual Reality Avatar.
The GhostDance project aims to investigate the importance of the bodily relationship at a time when the way we relate to each other is increasingly mediated by digital technologies. More specifically, the project focuses on the changes in the dancer's body perception when dancing with flesh and blood partners and when these partners are replaced by virtual avatars.
- How does the dancer's perception of body, weight, balance, personal space, touch, support and materiality change when immersed in an interaction with a virtual body?
- How can these perceptual transformations promote a new paradigm in the way we relate to others and to the world around us?

3. MOVESOUND

synopsis:
In an adaptation of Fritz Hauser's piece Zeichnung, originally composed for two percussionists but here performed by a percussionist and a dancer, Aleixo and Beatriz Lourenço set out to explore how they can perform this score - by transcribing sound into movement and movement into sound.
Zeichnung is a piece that thrives on the collaboration between the two performers who, in order to achieve the desired melody, depend on the consequences of each other's actions.
Movement precedes sound.
Without movement there is no sound,
And without sound there is no movement.
Based on Fritz Hauser's composition, we also codify it in movements, creating a parallel between hearing and seeing a common object. Leading to a recomposition and new version of the original piece.

5. (IN)VISIBLE SPACE

synopsis:
An improvised Dance and Music Performance
In Japanese there is a concept of ‘MA’ that is very difficult to translate in English. The kanji character of ‘MA’ combines door 門 and sun 日. Together these two characters evoke images of light travelling through the cracks of a doorway from where we see the light shining through. ‘MA’ points to the space in between, a pause in time, a gap, the ‘field’ of emptiness and silence that is filled with possibilities. ‘Ma’ invites us to explore the significance of what is not there as much as of what is there. Inspired and submerged in this atmosphere, Ana Leonor Ladas (dance) together with Fernando Lee (music) dive into a space of mysterious darkness inviting us all to ‘stop’, stand still and contemplate the landscape. "Work in the Invisible world at least as hard as you do in the Visible" (Rumi)
